Make a PDF fillable — free, unlimited, no sign-up
Drop in a flat PDF form. AI finds the boxes and checkboxes, you check them, and you download a PDF anyone can type into, with fields named “Surname”, not “textbox_0_3”.

Making a PDF fillable, step by step
-
Drop in your flat PDF
Choose a PDF form with no fillable fields: a printed-to-PDF form, a scan, anything with boxes and lines to write on. It opens in your browser, and your files are never uploaded.
-
Check the fields it found
FFDetr, a form-field detection model, finds the text boxes and checkboxes on every page. The tool then asks about the few it was unsure of, the boxed digits and the empty table cells, one at a time. On a computer you can also draw, move or delete fields in the page editor.
-
Save the fillable PDF
Download a PDF with real form fields, named after their labels, that anyone can fill in Acrobat, Preview, a browser, or straight away on this page.
Why make it fillable here
Finds the boxes for you
FFDetr found about 85 of every 100 fields on the real government forms we tested. The checklist brings you the places where it is most often wrong, so checking a form takes a minute, not an afternoon.
Fields named for you
Each field takes the name of the label printed beside it, such as surname or date_of_birth_day, so the form is easy to fill and easy to use in a mail merge.
Dates in boxes stay in boxes
A date printed as DD / MM / YYYY digit boxes becomes three comb fields split at the slashes, so every digit lands in its own box.
Your files are never uploaded
The PDF is read, checked and saved in your browser. The model downloads once, about 38 MB, or about 120 MB on a computer with a graphics card, and then runs on your device.
Works on a phone
The checklist asks one question at a time, with a zoomed crop and big buttons, and you can tap a line to add a field the model missed.
Free and unlimited
No account, no watermark and no page limit. It runs on your device, so there is nothing to meter.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I make a PDF fillable for free?
- Drop the PDF onto this page and press Find the fields. The form-field model marks every box and checkbox it finds, you answer a few quick questions about the ones it was unsure of, and you download a fillable PDF. There is no account, no watermark and no limit.
- Which model finds the fields?
- FFDetr, a detection transformer (RF-DETR) trained by Joe Barrow on the CommonForms dataset and released under Apache-2.0. It runs in your browser with onnxruntime-web: on WebGPU when your computer has a usable graphics card, otherwise on the processor.
- How accurate is it?
- On 19 real government forms with 2,075 fields, it found about 85% of the fields with a graphics card, and about 81% on the processor, which runs a smaller copy of the model. About 85% of what it found were real fields. It does worst on dense tables, finds boxed digits as one field per digit instead of one field and does not recognise signature lines, which is why the tool asks about exactly those.
- How long does it take, and how big is the download?
- With a graphics card: a one-time download of about 120 MB, then well under a second a page. Without one: about 38 MB, then about 5 seconds a page. Firefox runs this model about 10 times slower, so expect about 50 seconds a page there.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. Your files are never uploaded: the PDF is opened, checked and saved in your browser, and the model runs on your device.
- What happens to signature lines?
- They become text fields, so people can type their name. Digital signature fields, the kind that hold a certificate, are not created.
- Can I fill in the form straight away?
- Yes. Press Fill it in now and the new form opens in the PDF form filler on the same page, ready to type into.
- What if my PDF already has fields?
- Then it is already fillable. The tool says so and opens it in the form filler.
