Is my song uploaded to a server?
No. YourDevice downloads the separation model to your browser and runs it on your own device — your song is never uploaded, and there is no account or upload step at any point.
What do I get to download?
Two standard stereo WAV files at 44.1 kHz: the instrumental, which is the karaoke track, and the isolated vocals, which is the acapella. MP3 and a single ZIP are planned.
How many stems does it split a song into?
Two. The model isolates the vocals, and the instrumental is what is left once the vocals are subtracted. It is a two-stem splitter — it does not separate drums, bass and other instruments into their own tracks.
Can I use it to make a karaoke track?
Yes — the instrumental stem is the karaoke track, ready to play or import into a video editor. It does not add lyrics or lyric timing; you get the audio, not a subtitled karaoke video.
How good is the stem separation?
YourDevice’s vocal remover uses BS-PolarFormer, one of the highest-scoring open-source vocal separators and part of the BS-RoFormer family. Results are excellent on most tracks, though no separation is perfect — busy mixes can leave faint artefacts in either stem.
Why is the first run a big download?
BS-PolarFormer is about 201 MB of weights. It downloads once, is cached in your browser, and later songs start without re-downloading, so the cost is paid on the first song only. It is best done on Wi-Fi.
Does it need a powerful computer?
YourDevice runs the separation on your GPU through WebGPU where the browser offers one, and falls back to your CPU otherwise. BS-PolarFormer is a heavy model, so a desktop with a graphics card is much faster; phones work but are slow.
Is it really free?
Yes — free and unlimited, with no account. BS-PolarFormer runs on your device rather than our servers, so there is nothing for us to meter and no per-song cost to pass on.
